AgrAbility Outreach for Pennsylvanians
Pennsylvania's AgrAbility Project assists farmers and farm family members who are coping with a disability or long-term illness. Through the combined resources of Penn State Cooperative Extension, Easter Seals Central Pennsylvania and the United States Department of Agriculture, our clients are able to achieve greater mobility and independence in their farming operations.
AgrAbility helps those people coping with:
- Amputation
- Arthritis
- Back Injury
- Health Conditions
- Hearing Impairment
- Heart Conditions
- Respiratory Diseases
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Visual Impairment
- Cognitive Disabilities
AgrAbility staff can help by:
- Providing on-site assessments of farm operations
- Recommending farm equipment adaptations, home modifications, and adaptive equipment
- Providing peer and caregiver support from other farm family members with disabilities
- Referring families to local service providers and potential funding sources
- Offering education and training through in-service sessions
- Public awareness activities at state and county levels
